6 Steps to Becoming a Christian: 1. Recognize that God is calling you. 2 Peter 3:9: "The Lord is … not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2. Recognize your sinful condition and inability, by yourself, to do anything about it. Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Isaiah 64:6: "But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags." 3. Understand the result of sin. Romans 6:23a: "For the wages of sin is death …" 4. Realize that God loves you and has provided a way of salvation. John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.:" Romans 6:23b: "… but the gift of God is eternal life." 5. Hear God’s invitation. Revelation 3:20: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." 6. Respond to His offer. 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." To accept God’s gift of salvation, pray a prayer similar to this: "Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and deserve death. But you died in my place so I could be forgiven and live. Please forgive my sins now. Make me a new, clean person. Take full control of my life, and do for me what I cannot do for myself. I commit myself to you forever, without reservation, and I believe you accept me as your child. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
